Blog has been gathering dust for a while but now its time to spring clean it. Spring cleaning is the old fashioned version of make over.In the days when our mothers and grandmothers used to spring clean, our personal version would not have involved nipping and tucking our faces in a gruesome and ultimately misguided attempt to look young, rather we would sew a few new buttons onto our clothes. Where now people throw out all their old furniture and fill their houses with vibrating leather sofas ( a special section of the furniture world dear to my heart as you will see from a previous blog), or buy a television as big as the wall, they used to wash the curtains, move the furniture and get busy with the carpet sweeper. The carpet sweeper! I think it should be brought back and heralded as the eco tool for the future. I wonder if James Dyson has one in the offing.
I probably should patent it as there has ben a 50% take up on my two previous invention ideas, so the zeitgeist and I are as one. The ideas were for a car rubbish bin and a clock work Queen Mother. I am sure you can guess which one is now in production. An old friend runs a seemingly nerdy company called Richbrook making car accessories and last week he asked me to test drive their new Car Bin. I am now zipping about with all the sweet wrappers and empty coffee cups and water bottles in the bulging bin. it's strange having a clean car, but it means there is a clearer floor to see all the useful things that live there like dog leads, headphones and cds.
Cleaning equipment will perhaps always enthrall the self employed among us as it is the perfect weapon for work avoidance. I remember a friend coming to stay and bringing three family size aerosols of Cif. She was and is an icon of style and fashion, muse to at least one rock legend and a couple of fashion giants, but her accessory of choice was Cif. We had some of our most meaningful and enjoyable conversations while Ciffing the bathroom.
Currently, I am really enjoying the effects of HG chandelier spray cleaner on my life. This perhaps gives a false impression of my life, where I am sad to say there are currently no chandeliers, but it is perfect for squirting on the computer ( only try if you are in a controlled space and don't blame me), car mirror and windows in general. It also works well on taps, but that might be because I have already cleaned them with my other favourite, Silvo. Mainly I like it though because while using it I imagine the life it was created for. Something out of the Henry Green Novel "Living", or Ishiguro's "Remains of the Day." A world apart, not necessarily better, or even worse, just apart, and the chandelier cleaner is my absorbing link to it.
